Peter Obi's Media Office Refutes Solomon Dalung's Claim on Plateau State Visits

The Peter Obi Media Office has dismissed as false and misleading a claim by former Minister of Sports Development and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Solomon Dalung, alleging that Peter Obi has not visited Plateau State since the conclusion of the 2023 general elections.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, the Media Office described Dalung's assertion as factually incorrect, stating that Obi has made several visits to Plateau State since 2023, including two occasions during which he spent the night in the state.

According to the statement, Obi's visits have been driven by humanitarian, political, and strategic concerns rather than electoral considerations. It noted that he has repeatedly visited communities affected by communal violence in Bokkos, Mangu, Bassa, and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas to sympathise with victims and support displaced persons.

The Media Office said Obi has visited internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Mangu and Bokkos on multiple occasions, where he donated relief materials, provided financial assistance, and supported clean water initiatives for affected families.

It further recalled that in July 2023, Obi marked his 62nd birthday with displaced persons in Mangu Local Government Area, choosing to spend the day with victims of violence instead of holding a formal celebration.

The statement also highlighted Obi's engagements with traditional rulers, including the Gbong Gwom Jos, as well as meetings with state officials, describing them as evidence of his sustained interest in Plateau State and the wider North Central region.

The Media Office maintained that Obi's consistent visits demonstrate his commitment to humanitarian intervention, engagement with local communities, and advocacy on security challenges facing the state.

It therefore urged the public to disregard Dalung's claim, insisting that the allegation is unfounded and does not reflect the facts.
