Mbah's defection to APC ends South East Marginalization - Shettima
"Today begins a March, it marks an end to being on the sidelines, it marks the end to fragmented end of politics in the south east..." Peter Mbah
The Vice president, Alhaji Kashim Shettima has declared that the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah's entrance into the All Progressives Congress, APC, has ended the long marginalization of the south east in Nigeria's polity.
Shettima stated that the South East indigenes are resilient and industrious people who unfortunately have suffered political Marginalization, but that with their now mainstreaming in the national politics, the previous marginalization has become a thing of the past.
The Vice President spoke in Michael Okpara square, Enugu, on Tuesday where the Governor ceremonially declared to for the APC, dumping his previous political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Among those in attendance were Senate President, Goodwill Akpabio; the speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajuden Abbas, Governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state, Senators Ken Nnamani, Orji Uzor Kalu, Rochas Okorocha, and many others
Shettima said: "Igbo are the Jews of Nigeria and very mobile people, sadly one of the greatest parts of Nigeria has been on the margin of national politics; but with the coming of Governors Mbah, Uzodinma and Nwifuru, Ndigbo have come to the mainstream."
The Vice president stated that henceforth Governor Mbah has become the leader of the APC in Enugu state, adding that everything planned for the south east would now get to Enugu state.
Earlier, Governor Mbah said that his defection was a collective decision of the people of the state who have now entirely migrated to the APC.
Mbah said: "Today begins a March, it marks an end to being on the sidelines, it marks the end to fragmented end of politics in the south east. We need to form alliance today, we are now renewed in progress and forward moving. Today we will look back as a day we determined the destiny of Enugu State and the south east."
