Night of Tributes for Okey Ezea holds in Enugu, Tuesday

Arrangements have been concluded for the a Night of Tributes at the Amadeo Events center Enugu, in honour of the departed Senator who represented Enugu North Senatorial district, late Senator Okechukwu Ezea, popularly known as Ideke.
According to the burial media sub-committee headed by Mr. Ike Abonyi, the Night of Tribute will commence by 5pm at the event center located along Ebeano tunnel crossing road Enugu.
His Final Journey had commenced on Tuesday, February 3 with a requiem Mass at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja, followed by a Night of Tributes at the National Ecumenical Centre, Central Area, Abuja,
The remains of the late Distinguished Senator will be interred in his hometown of Itchi in the Igbo Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Friday, February 13, 2026.
On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, his remains was laid in state at the Senate Chamber for a valedictory session, allowing his colleagues in the Senate and other members of the 10th National Assembly to pay their final respects.
The burial ceremony will be conducted on Friday by the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Reverend Professor Godfrey Onah, accompanied by numerous other clergy from various churches, including Catholic, Anglican, and Pentecostal.
On Saturday, February 14, 2026, the Senator’s family will receive condolences, and on Sunday, a Thanksgiving Mass will be held at St. Christopher's Catholic Church Umuogbu Itchi.
Okey Ezea was a Nigerian politician, lawyer, and businessman who was born on August 11, 1963, and passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 62.
Ezea had a distinguished career in politics, co-founding the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu state in 2013 and becoming the party's gubernatorial candidate in 2015. He later joined the Labour Party in 2022 and was elected as a Senator for Enugu North in the 2023 general elections.
Before entering politics, Ezea worked with the Nigerian Customs Service and founded several companies, including Ideke Shipping Limited, Ideke Engineering Limited, and Damik Ventures Limited. He was also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
He was born to the family of Late Chief James and Mrs. Theresa Ezea. After his National Youth Service Corps service in September 1987, Ezea was employed by the Nigerian Customs Service, where he worked as the Deputy Superintendent, until he retired in 1994. In same year, Ezea entered into a capitalist business and founded the Ideke Shipping Limited.
