FLASHBACK: How Tinubu, Buhari, others invited USA to intervene in Nigeria's insecurity problem

A recall of the activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed that the party while it was in opposition to the People's Democratic Party (PDP), sold to the United States of America that Nigeria was a harbinger of terrorism.

Indeed, the APC specifically asked the US government to intervene in the Nigeria situation while it blamed the then government of President Goodluck Jonathan of the cause of the insecurity.

Among the key members of the APC who visited the US government in 2014 ahead of the 2015 general elections in Nigeria were the late President Mohammadu Buhari, President Bola Tinubu, the former minister of transport, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi; the then APC national chairman, Odiege Oyegun, among others.

"There and then, they submitted a petition on insecurity in Nigeria, openly exposing the country's fragile security situation. It was a bid to discredit the GEJ's administration before the international community in their own selfish quest to gain power.

"Ironically, those same voices are now the ones condemning those who dare to call this present administration out on insecurity today. History has a long memory, and this picture (they took at the US meeting) reminds us that truth doesn't change sides, only interests do," Nigerian netizans recalled.

The APC has in 2014, expressed concerns about Nigeria's insecurity, particularly regarding Boko Haram and told the US government that the Nigerian government under Jonathan wasn't doing enough.

The APC urged the National Assembly to probe security fund allocations, questioning the effectiveness of the government's efforts.

The APC welcomed international assistance, including offers from the US, Britain, and China, to combat Boko Haram. The party pledged to tackle security challenges, provide equipment, and address corruption if elected in governance.

It condemned the atrocious bomb blast that left many people dead in Abuja in May 2014 and urged the Federal Government to urgently convene a national stakeholders’ security summit to help find a lasting solution to the spate of mindless killings in the country.

In a statement APC issued in Lagos by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party expressed its shock and sadness at the savagery of the attack, while condoling with the families of those killed and praying for a quick recovery for the injured.

It said tat it is now obvious that all efforts so far to tackle the insurgency in the country have not yielded much fruits, meaning that this PDP-led Federal Government lacks the capacity and has clearly run out of ideas on how to tackle the violence.

”It is time for new thinking, new ideas to stop this insurgency before it consumes all of us. The attack, right on the outskirts of Abuja which has been spared this kind of spectacular strike since 2011 means those behind it are getting bolder and bolder, and it’s time to stop them,” APC said in 2014.
