Anambra Guber: Groups set up situation rooms, Police deploy DIG for election

No less than five situation rooms have been set up by different election monitoring groups for tomorrow's off-cycle Governorship election in Anambra state.

This is in addition to the police situation rooms headed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga.

Meanwhile, the Police headquarters has deployed the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Benjamin Okolo as the Supervisory Officer over all Police personnel deployed for election.

One of the election observation groups, Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA), said that it has deployed 50 observers who will send in reports in real time; making it possible for it to have firsthand information as to what happened on election day. 

Executive Director Centre of CTA, Faith Nwadishi encouraged citizen to exercise their civic responsibilities by voting candidates of their choice, expressing believe in the ability of INEC to deliver a free, fair, credible and conclusive election. 

"We also insist on the continued deployment of the BVAS which has proven to be a game changer in the conduct of the elections," Nwadishi said.

Another group, the Center for Democracy and Development (CDD- West Africa) disclosed that it trained and accredited 178 observers in the 21 local areas of the state.

The Director and Chairman of CDD- West Africa, Dr. Dauda Garuba and Prof Victor Adetula, respectively, noted that the Anambra governorship election is more than a sub-national election and called on all actors to prioritize national interest, protect Democratic integrity and ensure a peaceful, credible and inclusive election.
