Coal City University Hits Back at Sahara Reporters: Faults Report, threatens Lawsuit
CCU rejected three core allegations the media platform made against it such on alleged salary crisis, operation of Law Faculty and Student - Staff altercation.
Coal City University (CCU) Enugu, has gone on the offensive against Sahara Reporters, an online media platform, accusing the online platform of running a “sustained campaign of misinformation” and demanding a full retraction of recent reports it calls false and damaging.
In a statement, on Thursday, the private university rejected three core allegations the media platform made against it such on alleged salary crisis, operation of Law Faculty and Student - Staff altercation.
In the first instant, the University management dismissed claims of unpaid staff salaries and an ongoing strike as entirely unfounded. The university said that all academic, exam, research and administration functions are running on schedule, with no disruption to operations.
The school took direct aim at a March 2026 Sahara Reporters story alleging it admitted students into a law programme beyond regulatory limits. The Coal City University responded that “We do not operate a Faculty of Law and have never offered an LL.B programme," and called the claim impossible and misleading.
On the student-personnel altercation of June 10, the university accused Sahara Reporters of a one-sided account. CCU said it had already suspended every staff member and student linked to the case and set up a Review Committee before the report was published.
The student involved, management added, is on the school’s scholarship - which it says proves its commitment to access, but will not influence a fair, impartial review.
The university therefore said that its lawyers have been instructed to formally engage Sahara Reporters for an immediate retraction and corrective publication.
Management warned that unverified reports risk misleading the public and damaging the school’s reputation.
“We remain committed to academic excellence, institutional integrity and protecting our reputation. We will pursue all lawful avenues to address false and damaging allegations,” the University pledged.
The university urged students, parents and stakeholders to ignore what it described as distorted impressions of its operations and governance.
