The Enugu State judiciary and members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Tuesday held a valedictory court session in honour of late Barrister Albert Ikechukwu Nnamani, who passed on at the age of 82.

The solemn ceremony, held on April 28, 2026, commenced with the body of the deceased being brought into the auditorium at about 1:15 p.m., as all present stood in respect.

Dignitaries at the event included prominent legal practitioners and stakeholders such as Chijioke Edoga, Osita Okechukwu, Barristers Amechi Nwodo, Crescent Odo, Jideofor Ugwu, Ejike Eze, Onyinye Odo, Mogbowo (SAN), and Venatius Odo, alongside chairmen of various NBA branches. Family members, colleagues, and friends of the late barrister were also in attendance.

The Chief Judge of Enugu State was represented by Justice A. O. Onovo, who presided over the valedictory session and formally declared proceedings open. Senior judiciary officers and representatives of the Attorney General’s office participated in a ceremonial file past around the coffin.

In his remarks, Justice Onovo reflected on the life and legacy of the deceased, describing him as a dedicated legal practitioner whose 82 years were filled with meaningful contributions and lasting memories.

“We are here to pay our last respects to an astute legal practitioner who lived a fulfilled life. The Bible speaks of 70 years, and by strength, some reach 80. Barrister Nnamani was privileged to attain this,” he said. “The question remains—how well have we lived, and what impact have we made? Death is not an end, but a transition. We are convinced he lived well and deserves a place at the right hand of God.”

A representative of the Attorney General, Uzoamaka, also paid tribute, describing the late Nnamani as a defender of the vulnerable and a man who embodied the ideals of the legal profession.

“He was a mentor and a pillar of service. His humility defined his character, and his legacy remains etched in the hearts of many. He ran a good race, and his memory will continue to inspire strength,” the representative said.

Speaking on behalf of the NBA Enugu branch, Chairman Venatius Odo praised the late barrister as a fulfilled man who overcame life’s challenges and lived an exemplary family and professional life.

“He saw and conquered. He remained steadfast even in difficult times, including during periods of conflict. His life was one of purpose and accomplishment,” Odo noted.

Tributes were also delivered by chairmen of NBA branches from Oji River, Ezeagu, and Udi, all highlighting the late Nnamani’s contributions to the legal profession and society.

The special court session concluded with the formal closing by the presiding judge, after which the court rose.

In an emotional closing, one of the deceased’s daughters, Mrs. Chinenye Edoga, expressed gratitude on behalf of the family, thanking the judiciary, the NBA, and all attendees for honouring her father’s memory.
