The Greater Awgu Media Professionals (GAMP), representing the three local government areas of Awgu, Oji-River, and Aninri, has called on the Enugu State Government to take urgent steps on several critical developmental and social issues affecting the area.
The call was made at GAMP’s April meeting held on Monday, April 27, 2026.
In a communique signed by Comrade Regis Anukwuoji, Chairman, and Comrade Austin Nwabueze, Secretary, GAMP commended the state government for recognizing the University of Education, Ihe, in its development agenda.
The media body urged that the project be properly included in the state’s next annual budget.
The group also drew attention to the deteriorating facilities at the College of Health Technology, Oji-River, calling for immediate government intervention to upgrade the institution.
Highlighting health concerns in the area, GAMP appealed for the posting of resident doctors to Awgu General Hospital.
The communique noted that clinical services are currently limited to three days a week by visiting doctors, leaving patients vulnerable in emergency situations.
On the sports front, GAMP congratulated the state government for selecting Awgu Games Village as one of the venues for the upcoming National Sports Festival.
The organization urged swift action to upgrade facilities to national standards ahead of the festival.
The body also raised alarm over the recent windstorm in Aninri Local Government Area, which destroyed over 60 buildings, including schools, churches, and residential homes.
GAMP called for coordination between state and federal agencies to provide relief to affected communities.
Beyond development issues, GAMP urged residents of Greater Awgu to refrain from personal attacks on political office holders based on partisan affiliations.
The communique emphasized that such attacks could harm the community and stressed that political aspirants and supporters should conduct their campaigns with maturity, decency, and respect.
GAMP reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with the state government and the people of Greater Awgu to promote development, peace, and unity in the region.
