The Enugu State chapter of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has welcomed a wave of new members, including supporters of the Obidient Movement and the Kwankwaso political movement, in a move it says will boost its chances in upcoming elections.

The party leadership in the state, led by Dr. Johnpaul Anih, described the development as a significant step toward strengthening its political structure and expanding its grassroots appeal.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Enugu and signed by the State Secretary, Dr. Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor, and the Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Ugwueze, the party said the influx of new members reflects a growing desire among residents for a change in leadership.

The statement highlighted the entry of notable political figures, including Gil Nnaji, Chinyeaka Ohaa, Princess Adaogbu, and John Nwokeabia, noting that their involvement would enhance the party’s capacity to compete effectively and potentially unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.

According to the NDC, it is prepared to collaborate with individuals, groups, and organisations across the political spectrum to secure victories at all levels, from the State Assembly to the presidency.

The party also acknowledged the growing alignment of members from the Obidient Movement and the Kwankwaso Movement—often referred to collectively as the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement—stating that their shared vision aligns with the NDC’s agenda for governance.

Reaffirming its commitment to accountability, transparency, and sustainable development, the party said it aims to deliver measurable progress in key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.

The NDC further called on residents of Enugu State, including professionals, artisans, youths, and women, to join the party ahead of the registration deadline, stressing that collective participation is crucial to achieving what it described as “a new direction” for the state.

“The time for positive change is now, and the NDC stands ready to lead that change with unity and purpose,” the statement added.
