S'East ex-Govs lunch re-election support for Tinubu
They noted that the South-East governors were united in their support for the President’s re-election, describing the stance as a strategic decision
Former Governors in the south east state have thrown their support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The former governors made the support at the Inauguration of the South-East Forum of Former Governors in Enugu, on Tuesday.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Minister for Works and Former Governor of Ebonyi state, Engr Dave Umahi announced that their mandate was to support and advise serving governors in the region on key zonal and national issues.
According to Umahi, the forum is open to all former governors of the region, regardless of political party affiliation, and aims to provide strategic guidance to current leaders.
Present in the meeting were former Governors Martin Elechi (Ebonyi), Sullivan Chime (Enugu), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Chris Ngige (Anambra).
Umahi noted that more of their members would have attended the meeting but for their personal engagements outside the country.
The group commended the sitting governors of the South-East for their efforts in infrastructure development, security, and empowerment initiatives.
It also expressed appreciation to the President for appointing individuals from the region to key positions and for supporting infrastructure development across the South-East and other parts of the country.
In addition, the forum acknowledged federal support to state governments, noting that such assistance has contributed significantly to the achievements recorded by governors in the region.

The forum pledged its continued backing for both the governors and their administrations.
The group later paid a courtesy visit to a the governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah so he will relay the outcome of their meeting to the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum and other governors in the region.
"The aim is to strengthen collaboration and identify areas where former governors can support ongoing governance efforts," Umahi said.
