EEDC Launches ‘SuperEdge’ Billing System, Announces Temporary Service Shutdown for Upgrade

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has gone live with its new integrated billing platform, _SuperEdge_, designed to streamline prepaid and postpaid services for customers across its network.

The company announced the completion and deployment of the system on Friday, saying it would improve prepaid vending, postpaid billing and collection, and meter data management.

Group Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, said the rollout is part of EEDC’s broader push to use technology to improve efficiency and customer service.

“SuperEdge is designed to deliver a more convenient, seamless, and customer-focused service experience through self-service features,” Ezeh said.

Customers under EEDC’s subsidiaries — MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, EastLand, and NewEra — are expected to benefit from the upgrade.

Key features include QR code authentication for payment receipts, self-service generation of receipts for past transactions, and bill payments via SMS or bank transfer. Customers can also purchase electricity tokens, regenerate Key Change Tokens, apply for meters, retrieve details of their last purchase, check outstanding arrears, and contact customer service directly through the platform.

To access the services, customers are advised to save 08150826233 on WhatsApp and send “100” to begin.

EEDC said arrangements are also in the final stages to begin e-billing by June 2026. Under the plan, customers will receive monthly bills via email or mobile phone, removing the need for physical distribution. The company urged customers to update their records through the Know Your Customer form and provide current phone numbers and email addresses.

To ensure a smooth transition, EEDC will carry out a major system upgrade that requires a temporary shutdown of the vending platform. The shutdown will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 22, for postpaid customers and at 12 midnight for prepaid customers.

During the period, customers will not be able to make payments, recharge prepaid meters, or buy energy tokens. Normal services are expected to resume by 12 a.m. on Sunday, May 24.

The first phase of the project, focused on prepaid customers, was implemented in February 2024 in line with the Standard Transfer Specification meter upgrade. With phase two now complete, EEDC said postpaid customers have also been migrated to the SuperEdge platform for more efficient and reliable service delivery.
