Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has warned that Nigeria is veering off course, calling on citizens and leaders to unite and take urgent steps to redirect the country toward sustainable progress.
Obi made the remarks on Thursday during a visit to Bauchi, where he held talks with the state governor, Bala Mohammed, and other key stakeholders.
Speaking during the meeting, the former Anambra State governor expressed concern over the nation’s current trajectory, describing it as “not encouraging” and in need of immediate, collective intervention.
“We must unite as a people to build a better future. The direction we are going is not encouraging, and it requires all stakeholders to come together and chart a new course,” Obi said.
He stressed that Nigeria’s future hinges on the willingness of both leaders and citizens to work collaboratively in strengthening institutions, promoting inclusive governance, and pursuing sustainable development.
Obi also underscored the importance of building stronger partnerships across regions and sectors, noting that meaningful national development cannot be achieved in isolation.
Highlighting critical areas for intervention, he called for increased investment in infrastructure, particularly projects such as bridges and transport networks that can stimulate economic growth and enhance national integration.
In his remarks, Governor Mohammed aligned with Obi’s position, emphasizing the need for unity and coordinated efforts in addressing the country’s multifaceted challenges.
Both leaders expressed optimism that Nigeria could overcome its current difficulties through sustained dialogue, cooperation, and commitment to reforms.
The meeting concluded with a renewed call for continuous engagement among political leaders, stakeholders, and citizens as part of efforts to advance the nation’s development agenda.
Our correspondent reports that Obi was accompanied by a delegation made up of senators and other leaders from the South-East, alongside other dignitaries.
