The Chairman of Seahorse Lubricant Limited, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, on Monday, visited the Igbo victims of Missebo market in Cotonou Benin Republic whose shops were demolished by the authorities in the country.

The demolition, it was gathered, was part of the plans by the authorities in the country to build a Petit Paris, meaning Small Paris, which affected many traders in the area.

In a rare display of deep cultural reverence, men and women were seen spreading their clothes on the ground to serve as a carpet for the visiting leader.

While Chief Onunkwo humbly declined to walk on the garments, the gesture underscored the profound impact of the visit on the Igbo community in Benin Republic.

"The love was massive," Chief Ebuka Onunkwo remarked, visibly moved by the reception. "I could not hold my joy seeing the resilience and affection of our people despite their current challenges."

Addressing the crowd at the emergency summit, Ezeigbo N'Cotonou offered words of consolation and hope, urging the traders to remain steadfast.

To provide immediate support, palliatives were distributed to those most affected by the loss of their livelihoods at Missebo Market.

Chief Onunkwo also donated some funds that are earmarked for the upcoming Igbo League in Cotonou, a tournament featuring teams from the six Igbo-speaking states.

He also announced his intention to fully foot the bill for the forthcoming Igbo Prayer Summit in order to ensure that the igbo community in Benin Republic can gather for spiritual fortification without financial burden.

The visit concluded with a session of prayer for the welfare and prosperity of the igbo diaspora community.

Witnesses described the atmosphere as one of renewed hope, with many Igbo traders expressing gratitude for the timely intervention during a period of significant transition in Cotonou’s urban landscape.
