The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State has announced the suspension of one of its governorship aspirants, Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani, over allegations of anti-party activities and conduct considered harmful to the image and unity of the party.

The party said the decision followed disciplinary proceedings arising from a petition submitted on May 20, 2026, by Hon. Edeh Peter Chibuike, who accused Nnamani of making and circulating publications against fellow governorship aspirant, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji.

According to the PDP, the petition alleged that the publications criticized both Nnaji and the party for clearing him to participate in the governorship race under its platform.

The party stated that the actions allegedly violated Sections 58(1)(b), (f), and (h) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended), which deal with conduct capable of undermining the party, creating internal disaffection and exposing it to ridicule.

Following receipt of the petition, the Enugu PDP convened an Expanded Emergency State Working Committee meeting and invited Nnamani to appear before it.

In an invitation letter dated May 21, 2026, signed by the State Secretary, Hon. Chukwunonye Okereke, the aspirant was asked to attend a meeting held on May 22 at the residence of the state chairman, Hon. Vitus Okechi, in Emene, Enugu.

The party said a copy of the petition was attached to the invitation to enable him respond to the allegations.

However, the PDP stated that Nnamani failed to appear before the committee despite evidence that the invitation letter had been delivered through a courier service.

“The Expanded Emergency State Working Committee noted that Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani failed to honour the invitation despite evidence showing successful delivery of the letter,” the party said.

The committee subsequently concluded that the publications attributed to him were allegedly made in bad faith and were capable of portraying the party negatively while creating divisions ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

It also held that his failure to appear amounted to disregard for party authority and disciplinary procedures.

Based on its findings, the committee resolved that the conduct allegedly contravened Sections 58(1)(a), (b), (f) and (h) of the PDP Constitution.

The party therefore announced a one-month suspension of Nnamani effective from May 22, 2026, in line with Section 57(3) of the constitution.

It further referred him to the disciplinary structures of the party for further investigation and possible sanctions under Sections 57(4) and 57(5).

The PDP also inaugurated a seven-member disciplinary committee headed by Barr. Emeka Abah to probe the allegations and make recommendations.

The party said the action was taken to protect discipline, internal democracy and party unity as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Enugu State.

The suspension has generated reactions within the party, with some members viewing it as a signal that the leadership intends to enforce discipline and discourage actions capable of causing division within its ranks.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no immediate response from Nnamani regarding the allegations and his suspension.
