APGA: Withdrawal Rumors Hit Anambra Senate Race
Obiogbolu, Stella Odua Camps Deny Pulling Out
Less than 48 hours to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) National and State Assembly primaries in Anambra State, supporters of senatorial aspirants Dr. Alex Obiogbolu and Sen. Stella Odua are trading accusations over alleged withdrawals from the race.
Reports circulating on social media claimed that Obiogbolu, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Political Matters, had stepped down for Odua, saying she was better suited for the party’s ticket. The posts added that his decision was based on principle and thanked his supporters.
The Obiogbolu campaign team dismissed the claim as false.
Chief Ikenna-Aniagnoso, who leads the campaign organization, said the report emanated from political opponents seeking to frustrate Obiogbolu’s candidacy.
“There is no truth in it,” he said, urging party members to disregard the report.
Hours later, another set of posts claimed Odua had withdrawn from the Saturday primaries due to a health emergency. The report attributed the decision to complications linked to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and weight issues, citing sources close to the senator.
The Director General of Odua’s campaign organization, Chief Jideofor Victor Okoye, also denied the claim.
“I am not aware of the development. As a key member of the organization, I should be the first to know,” Okoye said. He described the reports as election-period propaganda meant to create controversy and please “paymasters.”
At APGA’s zonal headquarters in Awka, party officials declined to comment, saying they were focused on ensuring a peaceful and transparent process.
Checks showed both Obiogbolu and Odua remain on the official list of aspirants, and no withdrawal letters have been submitted for either candidate.
Ten aspirants are cleared for the Anambra senatorial primaries scheduled for Saturday.
