FRSC Prosecutes 35 Motorists in Enugu for Fake Diplomatic Plates, Overloading
According to the Corps, 14 drivers were prosecuted for fake diplomatic plate violations, while 21 were prosecuted for overloading
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has prosecuted 35 motorists in Enugu State for using fake diplomatic number plates and overloading vehicles, as part of its ongoing “Operation Guduma” enforcement drive.
According to the Corps, 14 drivers were prosecuted for fake diplomatic plate violations, while 21 were prosecuted for overloading.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the operation targets two key risks on the highways: security threats from illegal diplomatic plates and safety hazards from overloading.
“Operation Guduma is about closing two critical gaps: security risks from fake diplomatic plates and safety risks from overloading,” Mohammed said on Friday. He was represented by Corps Commander Dorothy Ikpeme of the FRSC Headquarters’ Operations, Monitoring and Control Centre.
He said the misuse of diplomatic plates can obstruct investigations and pose a security threat, while overloading and mixed loading contribute to avoidable crashes and loss of lives.
The five-day operation focuses on vehicles using diplomatic plates illegally and fake plates bearing inscriptions such as NYCN, NUP, AMB, UN-AMB, PEACE AMBASSADOR, and NANS. Enforcement teams are also clamping down on overloading and mixed loading on major corridors in the state.
“The Corps frowns at the misuse of diplomatic plates which poses a serious security threat by obstructing investigations, while overloading and mix-loading continue to cause avoidable crashes and loss of lives,” Mohammed said.
FRSC deployed patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, and motorbikes for the exercise and is working with other security agencies. The Corps said the operation aims to improve traffic flow on high-density routes and increase visibility to deter violations.
Mohammed described the operation as both a warning and an opportunity for vehicle owners to correct documentation and loading practices.
“The goal is safer roads, not conflict,” he said.
