Igbodike Movement Praises Tinubu’s SEDC Rollout, Cites Infrastructure Gains in South East
The commission’s establishment and the ongoing infrastructure push under Tinubu’s administration had opened new frontiers for development across the South East
The Igbodike Movement, a pan-Igbo group, has commended President Bola Tinubu for operationalizing the South East Development Commission (SEDC), describing it as a socioeconomic jump start for the region.
In a statement issued in Awka and signed by the group’s leader, Dr. Peter Nwankwo, the movement said the commission’s establishment and the ongoing infrastructure push under Tinubu’s administration had opened new frontiers for development across the South East.
“Tinubu’s administration operationalized the SEDC by appointing and inaugurating its pioneer board,” Nwankwo said. “This commission serves as a dedicated federal intervention agency to rebuild, rehabilitate, and construct critical infrastructure across the five states of the Southeast.”
The group highlighted several federal road projects designated for the zone, including the reconstruction and dualization of the Onueke-Afikpo highway, rehabilitation of the Enugu-Onitsha and Enugu-Port Harcourt expressways, and the Trans-Sahara superhighway segment passing through the region. It also cited bridge constructions linking Ebonyi and Cross River states as key to improving connectivity and economic integration.
Nwankwo added that the administration had driven targeted rehabilitation at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu and was modernizing other regional airstrips to boost air travel, business connectivity, and trade.
He noted that the South East had also benefited from broader federal programmes, including the Presidential Loan and Grant Scheme for micro-enterprises and the student loan scheme administered through NELFUND.
According to the statement, the federal government continues to work with South East leaders and the Ministry of Works to address legacy infrastructure deficits and gully erosion challenges in the zone.
The Igbodike Movement said the developments signaled a renewed federal focus on the region and urged sustained implementation of the projects.
