It's surprising parent uses child’s education for content creation – Maduka University responds to viral video
"Her intention is to use her social media influence to force the University to circumvent official protocol"
The Maduka University, Ekwegbe-Nsukka, in Enugu state has expressed shock that a parent could descend to use of content creation in pursuit of her child’s tertiary education.
But the University said that it will not be stampeded into unethical and inappropriate procedure, because of social media entertainment, to circumvent official protocol.
The university’s reaction followed a viral video by a content creator, Mrs. Chika Akhigbe, whose daughter is a Medical student of Maduka University, who allegedly pulled out of the university for lack of funds to continue her child’s education.
Mrs. Akhigbe had in the video demanded for the transcript of the student to be given to them to seek for admission elsewhere, to which the university responded that transcripts are only sent to institutions and not individuals. The content creator then went on with the response to entertain her followers on social media.
Responding to the viral video, Registrar of the University, Mr. J.M.U Omeje stated that in fairness, transparency and accurate public information, Mrs. Akhigbe’s daughter is a student in the Department of Medicine and Surgery, whose father was duly informed to provide the name of the institution to which the official transcript would be sent to, in line with standard university practice and established academic procedures, but which is yet to be provided.
Omeje stated that official transcript processing fees remains the prerogative of the University, as is the practice in higher institutions, globally, and wondered why the parents are making all the fuss over standard procedures.
“During the interaction, the student's father stated that he was unable to pay the prescribed official transcript fee and subsequently threatened to escalate the matter publicly and legally. He also visited other offices within the University, including the Admissions Office and the Bursary Department, making similar threats,” Omeje disclosed.
The Registrar further noted that the family has an outstanding balance of N500,000 out of N3.5 million for the 2025/2026 academic session for the student, and refuted the claims made in the video about fee increases.
The university said that the figure of N4.5 million cited by Mrs. Akhigbe applies to the 2026/2027 session for returning medical students, which has not yet started.
It added that fees for the 2025/2026 session remain unchanged and that it maintains “one of the lowest fee regimes among its contemporaries.”
Maduka University further denied allegations of insecurity on campus, saying there have been no security breaches since inception. It also disputed claims that the student is the top performer in her class and that the Vice-Chancellor was directly involved in discussions on the transcript.
“It is clear that she is on a mission to tarnish the reputation of the University through her campaign of calumny and character defamation. Her intention is to use her social media influence to force the University to circumvent official protocol. It is surprising that a mother would use the education of her daughter to entertain her social media followers and drive traffic to her page.
“Maduka University remains committed to professionalism, due process, adherence to established academic standards in all administrative matters, and the welfare of its students. We urge members of the public to disregard misleading narratives and rely on verified information from official University channels,” Omeje stated.
